Walcheren the place for you
|
The former island of Walcheren with its wide beaches and high dunes has a lot to offer.
Did you know, for example, that the most hours of sun in Holland per year are registered here?
And that the southern beaches have earned the nickname 'The Zeeland Riviera' because of this?
Besides, Walcheren has a variety of rural villages and well-known places, which are really worth a visit.
You must have heard of 17th-century Veere and of Middelburg, our capital with over a thousand monuments. Or of the port of Flushing with its long boulevards and of Domburg, the historical seaside resort, where the artist Mondriaan, among others, went for inspiration.
Moreover, the ferry Flushing - Breskens can take you to historical cities such as Bruges and Antwerp, at a stone's throw from your holiday resort.
At the same distance you can find the 8th wonder of the world: the storm surge barrier in the Oosterscheldt. This outstanding example of craftsmanship and technique is really worth a cycling trip. Apart from that you can go cycling to your heart's content on Walcheren. Well-laid out cycle tracks and excellent signposting take you to magnificent views of land and sea.
The sea that surrounds our 'island' also offers you plenty of possibilities to go surfing, sailing, swimming, fishing and scuba-diving. Excitement and relaxation, it is all here for you.
